21 Days of Prayer: Kazakh Uyghurs | Day 1

The Alliance Canada

An image of Kazakh Uyghur children standing on a staircase. The image reads:

Pray for Kazakh Uyghurs:

Father, we thank you for your faithfulness towards the Uyghurs. We earnestly implore you to surround them with your light and love; soften the soil of their hearts to receive the message of the Gospel. We pray that the Holy Spirit would meet them in their quest for truth and that they may discover the knowledge of their true identity in You. May the Kazakh Uyghurs experience the radical love of Jesus, their Mediator, and lead them back to you, Father. Amen.

Learn more about this least-reached people group:

The Uyghur are a Turkic people primarily in northwestern China, with origins tracing back to nomads from Siberia. Uyghur literally means "allied”, and they often work as “middlemen” between East Asia and Europe, or are involved in manufacturing, mining, oil drilling, trading, and transportation.

Of the 356,000 Uyghurs in Kazakhstan, many are attending post-secondary education and have left China because of government oppression and persecution. Diasporic communities are spread around Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and western China, as well as smaller communities around the world, including an estimated 2,500 in Canada.

Although the Bible has already been translated, and Christian radio broadcasts and the Jesus Film are available, many of the Muslim Uyghurs have been taught that Christinanity is a threat to their faith and are therefore resistant and distrusting to evangelical efforts. Only 0.01% are Christians.
