National Cultural Associations
The C&MA in Canada is rich in diversity and spiritual heritage including
millions of believers of various ethnicities and languages.
For decades, the C&MA churches across Canada have partnered with ethnic
and cultural groups within their parish. Many of the larger groups have
formed vibrant language-based associations that are known, among other
things, for their spiritual fervor and enthusiasm for evangelism.
Although all churches should welcome all people, whatever their language and
heritage, most churches are quite homogeneous; however, there is an
increasing number of churches that are attempting to be intentionally
intercultural, where no single ethnicity is dominant.
The opportunity to hear the gospel and worship in their mother language is
important to first-generation immigrants in particular. Consequently, The
C&MA in Canada continues to plant churches among various ethnic and
language groups. About 35 percent of Alliance churches in Canada are
primarily composed of people with a common ethnicity and/or language other
than English.
