Position: Student Ministries Pastor

Hours: 37.5 hrs/week

You think in the big picture and create a vision for Youth and Young Adults Ministry, working with the Lead Pastor to align with the overall vision and plan for HHAC. You have an innate ability to engage with youth and young adults, discipling them to grow spiritually. You are a natural connector and are passionate about partnering with parents to integrate faith into everyday life. You also leverage your leadership skills through guiding and engaging youth ministry volunteers.

The hours of this position involve a combination of work during office hours (8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday) and overseeing Youth and Young Adults Ministry programming during evenings and Sunday morning services.

Responsibilities Include:

Vision and Leadership

  • Develop and implement vision and direction for youth and young adults ministry at HHAC
  • Collaborate with Lead Pastor and other ministry leaders to establish a unified approach to youth and young adults ministry that aligns with the overall vision of HHAC
  • Stay informed about emerging trends in youth ministry and teaching techniques, implementing strategies accordingly
  • Maintain responsibility for church youth and young adults from jr. high through to age 30 and integration into adult ministries

Program Development and Implementation

  • Oversee the planning, development, and implementation of age-appropriate programs and curriculum, with a focus on establishing a solid biblical foundation and facilitating engaging experiences
  • Create intentional pathways for the spiritual growth of youth and young adults, incorporating various elements such as large group gatherings, small groups, events, and resources that assist families in their discipleship journey
  • Leverage digital tools and resources to enhance youth and young adults ministry experiences

Volunteer Recruitment and Development

  • Recruit, shepherd and direct the volunteer leaders and staff who support youth and young adults ministries
  • Oversee volunteer leader activities, providing support and mentorship where needed
  • Conduct training to equip volunteer leaders with the necessary skills and resources needed to serve effectively in their roles

Youth and Young Adult Engagement

  • Serve as a motivating, inspiring and engaging teacher to our youth and young adults on a regular basis as part of a larger plan for their spiritual development
  • Maintain a strategy for reaching and assimilating new youth and young adults into the ministry

Pastoral Care and Family Support

  • Cultivate a culture of care and support for youth, young adults and families, offering resources, guidance, and encouragement to parents as they navigate the challenges of raising youth in the faith
  • Provide pastoral care to youth, young adults and their families, including hospital visitation when appropriate
  • Maintain resource material and connect with appropriate persons to facilitate family care
  • Maintain a strategy for assimilating new youth families
  • Follow up on missing families that pertain to the overall ministry
  • Engage effectively with families in a digital environment

Administration and Growth

  • Ensure that HHAC safety protocols are being followed, working in conjunction with the Ministry Safe Lead to ensure volunteer safety training is completed
  • Prepare and adhere to a departmental budget with direction from the Lead Pastor and Board of Elders
  • Monitor the coordination and need of equipment/supplies and facilities related to any youth and young adults ministry needs
  • Collaborate with staff on additional responsibilities and projects, as assigned by the Lead Pastor, to support the overall goals of the ministry

Qualifications Include:

  • Strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ as evidenced by spiritual maturity and a close, consistent walk with Him
  • Demonstrated heart for youth and young adults
  • 3-5 years of experience directing student & young adult ministries in an organized setting
  • Education in youth ministry or a related field
  • Undergraduate degree in theological studies from an accredited evangelical seminary
  • Be licensed with The Alliance Canada or hold education, experience and testimony that will qualify the successful candidate to be licensed with the Alliance Canada
  • Possess strong leadership skills with both staff and volunteers
  • Engaging speaker
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency in digital platforms and technology
  • Ability to be flexible, adapt to change and demonstrate calm under pressure
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to function effectively in a team environment
  • Proven experience connecting with individuals from varied backgrounds
  • Ability to be self motivated and work independently
  • Experience in worship leadership is an asset
